Patrick Regnault (born March 31, 1974 in Villers-Semeuse , Ardennes Department ) is a former French football goalkeeper .

Career

Regnault began playing soccer at the age of seven and played in a storm until he was 14, before being incapacitated for a year by a serious illness. On his return a goalkeeper was needed in the team, so Regnault changed position. In 1991 he signed a professional contract with OFC Charleville as a 17-year-old, but did not appear in his first year in the professional team, which made it from third to second division in 1992 . There he made his debut in his second professional season. Because the also young Grégory Wimbée was usually preferred to him, Regnault appeared only irregularly. After this left the club in 1994, another competitor Regnaults was committed with Fabrice Grange from the second team of Olympique Lyon . Although this was ultimately able to win the competition in the 1996/97 season, the season also brought relegation with it. Regnault decided to move and signed with the third-rate FC Saint Denis-Saint Leu. In 1998 he turned his back on the club after a year when he was signed at Le Mans UC to replace previous goalkeeper Olivier Pédémas . In the second division he played a good season and reached the semi-finals with the team. Nevertheless, he decided in 1999 after an offer from the first division club CS Sedan for another change. In Sedan he was initially the second goalkeeper behind Nicolas Sachy , as their future successor he was planned. This led to the fact that he spent the first season without a contested use in the league and only made his debut in the French elite class in the 2000/01 season. In the course of the following season he finally ousted Sachy, who ended his career in 2002. After that Regnault was the undisputed goalkeeper, but had to accept relegation to the second division in his first season as such. There he remained number one in goal and was initially unable to celebrate promotion, but still made it to the cup final in 2005 , which was lost 2-1 to AJ Auxerre . In 2006 the team was promoted, but was immediately relegated again in 2007. Regnault remained the goalkeeper throughout, but in the 2008/09 season was the target of criticism and mobbing by the audience, so he decided to end his career at the end of the season.
