Patrick Syme

Patrick Syme (born September 17, 1774 in Edinburgh , † July 25, 1845 in Dollar , Clackmannanshire ) was a Scottish plant painter.

Live and act

In 1803, after the death of an older brother, Patrick Syme took over his position as a drawing teacher in Edinburgh . From 1808 he exhibited in the Society of Arts. On November 8, 1822, Eliza married Boswell, the daughter of Claude Boswell, later Lord Balmuto. Her son was the botanist John Thomas Irvine Boswell Syme (1822-1888).

On the recommendation of Sir William Jardine (1800–1874), whom he had taught, he taught from 1740 to 1745 at the Dollar Academy in Dollar ( Clackmannanshire ).

Some of his paintings are in the Scottish National Gallery .
