history
A settlement at the place of today's dollar was destroyed by the Duke of Montrose in 1645 as part of the attack on Castle Campbell , the seat of the Dukes of Argyll and the headquarters of the Campbell clan . Today only ruins of Castle Campbell in Dollar Glen remain. Historically, textile manufacturing was a significant industry in dollars and contributed significantly to its development. The companies used the numerous mountain streams along the slopes of the Ochils to generate energy. Tweed , tartans and knitwear have been produced there since the 16th century .
