Patroclus Römeling (* around 1481 in Borgeln ; † April 1571 in Diepholz ) was a Protestant theologian and reformer.

Life

Römeling entered the Franciscan order early on . During the years of the decision he no longer adhered to the monastery rules. The Guardian complained about him and sent him to Bonn and Osnabrück . According to another tradition, he rose to become a reading master in Osnabrück. Count Friedrich the Elder met him there. Ä. von Diepholz know and called him in 1528 as a preacher in his county. Römeling worked in an awakening spirit. He was far removed from the teaching disputes.

It is difficult to say anything about his learning or his inner attitude. He could not completely stay out of the theological differences of the time, since he remained a follower of Martin Luther throughout his life . In December 1560 he was appointed superintendent by Count Johann and became the reformer of the entire county.

Despite the acceptance of the Augsburg interim , there were no fluctuations in belief in the country. Römeling was able to create a solid foundation for the Reformation. He was free to draw up his own church ordinance, but he did not make use of this permission. It is not known which measures he took in detail.
