Patroness polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Patroness Polka is a French Polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 286). The work was performed for the first time on February 2, 1864 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was written for Mardi Gras in 1864. There were two lawyers ' balls that year because the organizers couldn't agree on a joint ball. For the first ball, the composer wrote the Juristenball-Polka op. 280. The second ball was honored with the patroness polka . The name of the work goes back to the patrons of the event, who were also known as patroness. The waltz Patronessen op. 264 , composed two years earlier, also owes its name to the patrons. In 1899, Adolf Müller used parts of this work in the operetta Wiener Blut , which he composed based on motifs by Johann Strauss (son) .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 4 minutes and 54 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
