Paul-Eugène Mesplès
Paul-Eugène Mesplès ( 1849 - 1924 ) was a French painter, lithographer, etcher, illustrator, caricaturist and musician.
After visiting the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme , Mesplès made his debut at the Salon of 1880 with novel illustrations. He illustrated novels by Jean-Joseph Vadé , Guy de Maupassant , Victor Hugo and Émile Zola , and provided pictures for “Le Monde Illustré”.
He also created cartoons for Le Chat Noir - cabaret , designed jewels and theater costumes. He also worked as a draftsman at the Paris Museum national d'histoire naturelle .
Mesplès composed songs, mostly to his own texts.
