Paul Gerhardt Church on Ivensring

The Paul Gerhardt Church in Kiel - Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf is a Protestant church, which was inaugurated in 1959.

history

The Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf parish became independent in 1915. A church hall was set up, which was destroyed by bombs in 1945. But there have also been efforts to build a church.

In 1953 a church building association with over 400 members was founded. After tough negotiations, they bought the property on Ivensring on December 21, 1956. The architects Bolz / Detlefsen were commissioned to build their first church. The building reminded many more of an industrial building than a place of worship. After laying the foundation stone on July 3, 1958, the church was consecrated on March 1, 1959. In the course of the construction work, the name of the church and thus the parish was also determined.

Crucifixus

The cross is a design by Jan Koblasa and was hung up at Easter 1983, which is sometimes very controversial. The contact existed before through art projects in the church, on January 8th, 1981 the artist had the idea of creating a cross for the altar wall, which was very bare apart from the 114 concrete crosses.

It is an Antoniunskreuz (T-shaped) made of oak with a body made of maple wood. The body has no arms and only a hinted head with twelve nails.

The wood was donated by Hein Dahlinger , who was based in Dietrichsdorf with his wood company.
