Paul August Ritterstädt (born January 2, 1796 in Pirna ; † May 2, 1883 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Live and act

The lawyer Ritterstädt, a son of Johannes Paul Ritterstädt, city ​​judge and senator of Pirna, was elected in 1831 as one of the municipal representatives of Pirna. From these he was appointed head of the body that existed alongside the city council. In 1832 he was elected the first freely elected and professional mayor of the Elbe city. He held this office from 1832 to 1849. From 1833 to 1848 he was a member of the first chamber of the Saxon state parliament as a magistrate appointed by the king . From 1839 to 1848 he was the second secretary of the chamber.

The four-volume handwritten memoirs of Ritterstädt are in the Pirna city archive and offer an insight into the social upheavals during the pre-March period .

His son Paul Hermann Ritterstädt (1841-1924) was also politically active as a secret councilor and ministerial director in the Ministry of Finance in Dresden.
