Paul Commer

Paul Commer (born February 24, 1907 in Hamm , † December 31, 1995 in Marl ) was a German painter .

Life

Commer was born the first of nine children. After attending secondary school (1917–1923) he did a voluntary labor service from 1931 to 1933 as a labor leader in Heessen (now Hamm ). From 1933 to 1941 he was jointly responsible for the construction of the Hammer barracks at the building authority of the city of Hamm. In 1941 he received a warrant for the Wehrmacht and was imprisoned by the Soviets for four years in 1944. From 1949 until his retirement in 1972 he was responsible for the construction of several schools in the building department of the city of Hamm.

He drew over 1,000 watercolors and pen drawings. Under the guidance of his teacher Theo Hölscher, he learned various watercolor painting techniques. His pictures document a piece of local history.
