Paul Emile Réveillère
Paul Emile Réveillère , (born May 27, 1829 in Saint-Martin-de-Ré , † January 26, 1908 in Brest ) was a French admiral and later pacifist .
Life
Réveillère performed his admiral service mainly on the world's seas in the area of the French colonial areas. In 1891 he retired and from then on worked as a publicist , making a name for himself as a pacifist. Réveillère turned against French revanchism tendencies towards Germany. For example, he also entered into correspondence with Bertha von Suttner , to whom he wrote the following, among other things:
“The coincidence of my birth made me a French patriot for the time being. ... Then I became a European patriot and finally a patriot of humanity. In our time national love is dull if it is not illuminated by love for humanity. "
