Paul Frank Webster

Paul Frank Webster (* 24. August 1909 in Kansas City , † 6. May 1966 in New York City ) was an American jazz trumpeter of Swing .

Webster graduated from Fisk University and the Williams Institute of Music. He played in the Territory Bands of George E. Lee (1927), Andy Kirk , Bennie Moten (1927/28) and from 1935 to 1944 with Jimmy Lunceford . In the 1940s he played frequently with Cab Calloway (e.g. 1948/49) and was with Charlie Barnet in 1946/47 and 1952/53 . He then played in Broadway musical orchestras and with Sy Oliver (1947 and occasionally in the 1950s to the 1960s), with whom he also recorded, Ed Wilcox (1948/49) and Count Basie (1950).

He is best known from his time at Lunceford, where he played the high notes on the trumpet, replacing Tommy Stevenson . He was also briefly at Lunceford in 1931.

He is not to be confused with the songwriter Paul Francis Webster (1907-1984).
