Paul Goebels (born July 30, 1918 in Mettmann ; † July 4, 2000 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ) was a German politician and author and from 1971 to 1984 mayor of Bad Neustadt an der Saale.

Life

According to the German Office (WASt) , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht on August 26, 1939 . He initially worked in a construction battalion and later in the infantry . He was deployed in Russia and later on the Western Front . In the spring of 1945 he was in the reserve hospital in Münsterschwarzach , where, according to tradition, he was involved in saving the monastery from destruction. There he met his future wife and moved to Bad Neustadt after the war. There he was an employee of the overland works.

Goebels had been a member of the Bad Neustadt city council for the CSU since 1966. From November 1971 he was mayor of the city. During his term of office, important decisions were made that shaped the future of the city. So the municipal area reform , the construction of new roads. Furthermore, his special commitment was the town twinning and he was the co-founder of the Neustadt in Europa association . The musically gifted man was also very committed to the cultural aspects of the city. So he revitalized the city ​​archive and relocated it in the building of the Bildhäuser Hof. Goebels was mayor until 1984. He died in July 2000.
