Paul Grümmer

Paul Grümmer (born February 26, 1879 in Gera , † October 30, 1965 in Zug ) was a German cellist .

Grümmer studied at the Conservatory in Leipzig with Julius Klengel .

Paul Grümmer played in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. He was also known as a member of the Busch Quartet , to which he belonged until 1930, and the Stross Quartet (1929 and 1937-1940). He wrote a school for the viola da gamba , played this instrument in early music ensembles and worked with Wanda Landowska . As a cellist, he founded the master trio in 1942 together with the violinist Váša Příhoda and the pianist Michael Raucheisen .

Grümmer taught temporarily at the Vienna Music Academy . Nikolaus Harnoncourt was one of his students between 1944 and 1948 .
