Paul Hänni

Paul Hänni (born October 3, 1914 in Tavannes ; died 1996 in Crans-Montana ) was a Swiss athlete.

Life

Paul Hänni was initially an athlete at the local FC Tavannes . He later started as an athlete for the Athletics Club (LAC) Biel. He was Swiss champion over 100 meters in the years 1934 to 1937 and in 1942. Over 200 meters he was champion from 1935 to 1937, 1939 and again in 1942. He improved the Swiss record over 100 meters to 10.6 s, 10, 5 s and then to 10.4 s, this record lasted until 1960. His record over 200 meters, which was improved to 21.4 s and then to 21.2 s in 1935, was held until 1961.

At the European Athletics Championships in Turin in 1934 , he was fourth over 100 meters. At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , he was eliminated in fourth place in his semi-final run over 100 meters with 10.7 seconds. In the final over 200 meters he was fourth in 21.6 seconds behind four-time Olympic champions Jesse Owens , Mack Robinson and Martinus Osendarp . The Swiss 4 x 100 meter relay was eliminated as fourth in the heat.

Hänni lived in Crans-Montana since 1976.
