Paul Kronacker

Paul Georges Baron Kronacker (born November 5, 1897 in Antwerp , province of Antwerp , † February 3, 1994 in Kapellen , province of Antwerp) was a Belgian politician of the Liberal Party .

biography

After attending school, he studied chemistry at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and, after completing his doctorate, worked in the sugar industry and as a manager in companies .

He began his political career as a candidate for the Liberals in 1939 when he was elected Senator for the province of Brabant . He was a member of the Senate until 1946.

In September 1944 he was appointed minister without portfolio by Prime Minister Hubert Pierlot in his government and held this office under his successor Achille Van Acker until August 1945. In August 1945 he took over the post of Minister for Imports in the second Van Acker cabinet and remained in office in the subsequent cabinet of Camille Huysmans until March 1947.

After leaving the Senate, he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 1946 , where he represented the interests of the Leuven district until 1968 . During this time he was President of the Chamber of Deputies from November 11, 1958 to April 17, 1961 .

On April 5, 1963, he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State for his services . Kronacker was the father-in-law of the liberal politician Jacky Buchmann , who was among other things minister for medium- sized businesses from 1985 to 1988.
