Paul Lang (Librarian)

Paul Lang (ius) (* 1470 in Zwickau , † probably after 1535) was a Benedictine - Monk in Bosau in Zeitz . There he worked as a librarian . He is counted among the humanists . In his writings he usually calls himself monachus Bozowiensis .

Live and act

Lang was enrolled at the University of Krakow in 1486 , but entered the Benedictine monastery in Bosau near Zeitz as early as 1487. There he worked as a librarian. The monastery already had its own bookbinding shop there. When purchasing books, Lang's historical and humanistic inclinations become apparent. He is considered to be the "representative of the Benedictine monastery humanism of his time". Lang undertook historical studies and wrote chronicles.

Johannes Trithemius subsequently included Lang in his Catalogus illustrium virorum Germaniae .
