Paul Lecomte (painter)

Paul Lecomte (born April 25, 1842 in Paris , † 1920 ibid) was a French painter and watercolorist .

Life

Paul Lecomte was a student of the Versailles painter Émile-Charles Lambinet . From 1868 to 1912 he was regularly represented with paintings and watercolors in the Paris Salon . In 1882 it received an honorable mention, in 1888 a third class medal and finally a second class medal in 1895. It received an Honorable Mention at the World Exhibition of 1889 and a silver medal at the World Exhibition of 1900 .

In 1892 Lecomte joined the Société d'Aquarellistes francais .

He found the motifs of his numerous landscape paintings and seascapes mainly in the region of Ile-de-France , Brittany and Normandy . Further paintings were made in the Basque Country , southern France and England. Lecomte is considered to be one of the last representatives of the Barbizon School . Many of his watercolors also show the influence of Japonism .

His students include Louis Aimé Japy (1839–1916) , who was almost the same age, and his son Paul-Emile Lecomte (1877–1950).
