Paul Leemann-van Elck

Paul Leemann-van Elck , born Paul Leemann (born August 25, 1884 in Riesbach , † February 23, 1960 in Goldbach ZH ) was a Swiss wine merchant who became important as a collector of book printing and as an author on subjects related to printing.

Live and act

Paul Leemann was the son of the businessman Gustav Adolf Leemann and his wife Henriette, née Escher. He graduated from the commercial school in Zurich , took over his father's wine import business in 1903 and undertook extensive business trips in Europe. In 1920 he married Charlotte van Elck, whose name he has carried since then.

After selling his company in 1927, he built up an important collection of valuable book prints and worked as a writer. He was the author of several works on the art of printing and collaborated with the New German Biography . The Swiss Bibliophile Society made him an honorary member.

Leemann-van Elck presented studies on Christoph Froschauer , Christoph Froschauer the Younger , Matthias Stumpf , Salomon Gessner and Anton Graff , among others .
