Paul Leroy (painter)
Paul Leroy , actually Paul Alexandre Alfred Leroy, (born December 27, 1860 in Paris , † 1942 ibid) was a French painter .
Life
Leroy received his first artistic lessons at the École des Beaux-Arts (EBA) in Odessa . At the age of 17 he came back to Paris with his family and was now a student at the EBA. At the same time he received lessons in Alexandre Cabanel's studio . With his support he was admitted to the major annual exhibition of the Salon de Paris in 1881 and was able to exhibit there regularly until 1939. Paul Leroy also taught at the Académie Vitti .
reception
From his study trips to and through Egypt , Tunisia , Persia , Algeria and the Ottoman Empire , Leroy brought back a large number of impressions and sketches, which then became the basis of his much-praised oil paintings . With these works he soon became an important representative of Orientalism .
