Paul Philipp Barraud

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Philipp Barraud (* 1750 ; † 1820 ) was an English watchmaker who made chronometers in Cornhill in the City of London .

In 1796 he became a member of the Clockmakers Company and was its master in 1810 and 1811 . In partnership with George Jamieson and William Howells , he initially manufactured chronometers based on the model of Thomas Mudge , but then switched to the more economically successful designs by John Arnold and Thomas Earnshaw . He also made very good marine chronometers.

His parents were Francis Gabriel Barraud and Magadalen Benine nee. Crespin, who was the daughter of a well-known Huguenot silversmith. Barraud had seven children and his sons Frederick and John followed him in the business. Between 1796 and 1820 they manufactured over 1,000 chronometers.
