Paul Roux (painter)

Paul Louis Joseph Roux (* 1835/1845 in Paris ; † March 1918 ) was a French painter and engraver.

Life

Roux was a son of the painter Louis Roux (1817-1903) and a grandson of the medalist Louis-Stéphane Roux († 1832). He got his first artistic lessons from his father and with his support he later became a student at the École des Beaux-Arts ; u. a. with Alexandre Cabanel and Henri Harpignies .

Roux mainly painted plein-air , mostly in the Fontainebleau forest, and was therefore also close to the Barbizon school . From 1870 onwards, thanks to Alexandre Cabanelo, Roux was able to regularly take part in the major annual exhibitions of the Salon de Paris .

Roux was a member of the Société des artistes français .
