Paul Tedrow
Paul Tedrow (* 1940 in Ware , Massachusetts ) is an American physicist who specializes in solid-state physics.
Tedrow studied physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Bachelor 1961) and received his PhD in low-temperature physics from Cornell University in 1966 with David M. Lee . In his PhD he researched the phase diagram of helium 3 / helium 4 mixtures. From 1967 until his retirement in 1998 he was a scientist at the Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory at MIT. There he worked with Robert Meservey on superconducting tunneling, which in the early 1970s led to the discovery of spin-polarized tunneling of electrons, a basis of spintronics . In 1983 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University .
In 2009 he received the Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Prize with Jagadeesh Moodera (also from MIT), Meservey and Terunobu Miyazaki for their pioneering work in spintronics . In 1978 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society .
