Paul V. Reichelderfer

Paul Valentine Reichelderfer (born October 31, 1913 in Atlanta , Pickaway County , Ohio, † February 15, 1996 in Athens (Ohio) ) was an American mathematician.

Reichelderfer studied mathematics at Ohio State University , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1935 and his master's degree in 1937. In 1939 he received his doctorate there under Tibor Radó ( Some properties of continuous transformations in the plane ). He was then an instructor at Ohio State, 1940/41 at Stanford University and 1941/42 at the University of Chicago . During World War II he was in the civil service. In 1946 he was again as an instructor at Ohio State University, where he was Associate Professor in 1947 and Professor in 1948. In 1949 he was head of the mathematics department for six months as the successor to Radó, who took up a research professorship. In 1968 he went to the Ohio University in Athens as a professor.

Reichelderfer dealt with geometric dimension theory.

Reichelderfer was chairman of the Ohio section of the Mathematical Association of America .

He was married to Aino Keress.
