Paul Wevers

Paul Wevers (born June 21, 1907 in Cologne , † March 6, 1941 in Braunschweig ) was a German canoeist who won an Olympic gold medal in 1936.

From 1931 to 1933, Paul Wevers from the Cologne Kayak Association together with Franz Schneider won the German championship title in two-man kayaks over 1000 meters three times in a row. In 1933 Wevers and Schneider won the European Championships over 10,000 meters in a two-man folding boat ahead of the two Austrians Viktor Kalisch and Karl Steinhuber .

In 1936, Wevers and Ludwig Landen won the title in the two-man kayak over 10,000 meters at the German Championship. The two of them also won the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin over this distance , where they crossed the finish line with a twenty second lead over Kalisch and Steingruber.

Paul Wevers died in a plane crash during World War II.
