Paul Whetnall
Paul E. Whetnall (born February 19, 1947 in Birmingham , † May 1, 2014 ) was an English badminton player . Susan Whetnall was his wife. Together they had two children, son Andrew and daughter Claire.
Career
Paul Whetnall won bronze at the European Championships in men's singles in 1970 and 1976. He won the Belgian International, the US Open, the Dutch Open, the Scottish Open, the German Open and the South African Championships, among others. He has been national English champion four times. His greatest successes were silver medal wins at the Commonwealth Games in 1970 and 1974. As a coach, he worked for the Canadian Badminton Association and for Badminton England. Among other things, he led the English team at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986 and in Auckland in 1990, with his team winning gold at both events. In 1983 and 1989 he was the English national coach at the World Championships.
