Paul Wibbeking

Paul Wibbeking (* approx. 1508 in Lübeck ; † September 11, 1568 there ) was councilor and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Paul Wibbeking was the son of the Lübeck councilor Konrad Wibbeking . He was elected councilor in Lübeck in 1544 and represented the city of Lübeck at the Hanseatic Days between 1556 and 1559. From 1559 to 1560 he was a treasurer. In 1560 Paul Wibbeking was appointed mayor of Lübeck , but in the following year 1561 he was no longer able to fulfill his official duties because of his frailty and left the council at his request in 1560. After his death he received a painted epitaph with his portrait and his coat of arms in the Marienkirche in Lübeck , which was removed in 1800.

Wibbeking was married twice. His son Joachim Wibbeking also became a councilor in Lübeck in 1578. The councilors Johann Kerkring and Hermann Warmboeke were his sons-in-law.
