Paulo David

Paulo David (* 1959 in Funchal ) is a Portuguese architect who won the Alvar Aalto Medal in 2012 .

Born in Madeira , David studied at the Technical University of Lisbon until 1989 and then returned to his home island.

For works such as the Casa das Mudas art center in Calheta , he was nominated for the EU's Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture in 2005, but was defeated by Rem Koolhaas . In 2012 he was honored with the Alvar Aalto Medal.
