Pauluskirche from Kirchenstrasse, tower

The Pauluskirche is located in the north of Dortmund , on the corner of Schützenstrasse and Kirchenstrasse. It was built between 1892 and 1894 based on a design by the Berlin architect Karl Doflein . The building was badly damaged in World War II, repaired after 1945 and restored in 1994. It is registered as an architectural monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund .

Today the church belongs to the Protestant Lydia congregation, which came into being on July 1, 2007 through the merger of the three evangelical congregations “Frieden”, “Markus” and “Paulus” and is now the only evangelical congregation in the northern part of the city. The community is named after Saint Lydia , who is considered the first European Christian and lived in Greece.

The spacious parish hall, originally built in 1964, including kindergarten, was closed in 2017 and demolished in early 2018. A rehabilitation facility for Diakonie (Friederike-Fliedner-Haus), a modern kindergarten and a new community center will be built on the site by 2019 .

The three-part steel bell is tuned to c sharp'-e'-g '.

organ

Concerts and other cultural events take place regularly in the Pauluskirche. A two-manual organ is also available for this purpose, which was built in 1994 by the Austrian organ building company Rieger (Vorarlberg). The instrument has 28 registers and mechanical action .
