Church tower of the Pauluskirche

The Pauluskirche Eppelheim is a Protestant parish church in the main street in Eppelheim . Today it belongs to the parish of the Southern Electoral Palatinate of the Evangelical Church in Baden .

Building history

The oldest part of the Pauluskirche is a late Gothic tower from the 2nd half of the 15th century. A fragment of a side portal arch with the inscription 1531 is walled into the nave wall .

In 1806 the east-west nave was replaced by a late Baroque new building, located on the new village street north-south. Pauluskirche was consecrated on March 22nd, 1812. In the Second World War, the church bells were lost and so the old tower was built higher with four new bells and a larger tower clock . On December 5, 1948, the bells in the new tower were solemnly inaugurated with a bell consecration by Regional Bishop D. Bender.

Main entrance

On August 2, 1952, with the support of the Evangelical Upper Church Council and many private donations, the demolition of the northern church wall and the construction of a new choir extension began, which was completed on September 6. On October 17th, the new community hall extension celebrated its 3rd topping-out ceremony . As the old gallery was too big for the church, it was replaced in the late summer of 1953 by a support structure made of two thin steel tubes. Finally, the organ, which did not fit on the new gallery, was renewed.

The Michael Window, Jesus the Good Shepherd and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was created by Harry MacLean in 1953 . In September 1993, shortly before his death, he handed over the two windows The Creation and Feeding in the Desert , the original designs of which were given to the Protestant parish on permanent loan .
