Michael Waligora (born January 3, 1990 ) is a Czech ski racer and former grass skier . He won three medals at the Grass Ski Junior World Championships and was among the top ten three times in the Grass Ski World Cup . Since 2008 he has only been active in alpine skiing , but so far without any major success.

Career

Grass ski

After numerous successes in junior races of the Czech Cup, Michael Waligora also took part in FIS races from the age of 16 . His first major event was the Junior World Championship in Nové Město na Moravě in July 2005, where he finished fourth in the Super-G and eighth in the giant slalom. In August of the same year he drove into the top ten for the first time in FIS races. At the Junior World Championships 2006 in Horní Lhota u Ostravy , Waligora won two bronze medals in slalom and in combination and was fifth in giant slalom and seventh in super-G. In August 2006 he took part in his first two World Cup races in České Petrovice . He came in 19th place in giant slalom and ninth in slalom, placing him in 28th place in the overall ranking for the 2006 season. At the 2007 Junior World Championships in Welschnofen , the Czech won the silver medal in giant slalom behind his compatriot Jan Gardavský and was fourth in the super combined. In August he took part in two World Cup races again in Čenkovice , reaching seventh place in the giant slalom and eighth place in the slalom, making him 35th overall in the 2007 season . His last grass ski race was an FIS giant slalom on August 14, 2007.

Alpine skiing

In alpine skiing, Michael Waligora has been taking part in FIS races and the Czech championships since winter 2005/2006. In FIS races he has been in the top ten five times and in national championships several times in the top 20. In 2009 and 2010 he also took part in the junior world championships. In 2009 he only started in the downhill, but did not finish. In 2010 he took part in the Downhill and the Super-G. While this time he didn't see the finish line in the Super-G, he finished 57th out of 79 runners in the downhill, making it the best of the four Czechs who took part in this competition. In November 2009 he also took part in two European Cup Super Gs on the Reiteralm , but failed in both.
