In August of the same year he competed in Nové Město na Moravě his first world cup races . In the two giant slaloms he was unable to qualify for the second round, in the Super-G he scored World Cup points for the first time with 26th place. In the 2005 World Cup season, Gardavský was in the top 20 four times, his best result was twelfth place in the second Super-G of Forni di Sopra . In the overall World Cup, he finished 15th, tied with his compatriot Michal Klimeš . At the Junior World Championships in July 2005 Gardavský won his first of a total of nine titles. Before the Austrian Marc Zickbauer and the Czech Lukáš Brýdl , he was Junior World Champion in Super-G. In the giant slalom he finished fourth, in the slalom and thus also in the combination he was eliminated. In the same year he also took part in his first world championship in the general class in Dizin . He came in the top 30 in all competitions, his best result was 23rd place in the combination.

In the seven World Cup races of the 2006 season, Gardavský drove five times under the top ten and achieved eighth place in the overall standings. His best race results were two fifth places in the slalom in České Petrovice and in the second Super-G in Forni di Sopra. The Czech won three medals at the 2006 Junior World Championships in Horní Lhota . He won gold in slalom, silver in combination and bronze in giant slalom; in the Super-G he was fourth. In the next year Gardavský was able to improve even further at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Welschnofen and won three gold medals in the disciplines of giant slalom, super-G and super-combined; only in the slalom he was not included in the ranking. He reached two top 10 places at the 2007 World Cup in Olešnice v Orlických horách . He was seventh in the super-G, ninth in the super combined and twelfth in the giant slalom. In the overall World Cup he fell back to 15th place in the 2007 season despite four top 10 places (the best result was fourth place in the super combination of Forni di Sopra).

On August 16, 2008 Jan Gardavský celebrated his first World Cup victory in the Super-G in Marbachegg . He achieved another podium place on September 6th with third place in the giant slalom in Forni di Sopra, at the same time as the Italian Riccardo Lorenzone . With another two top 10 results, he finished tenth in the overall World Cup in the 2008 season. Gardavský won two gold medals at the 2008 Junior World Championships in Rieden . He won the Super G and the Super Combined and was fourth in the slalom. In the giant slalom, however, after the fastest time in the first run, he only finished 32nd and last because of a serious mistake in the second run. The Czech won his second World Cup on September 13, 2009 in the last race of the 2009 World Cup season . At the same time with his compatriot Jan Němec he won the super combined in Forni di Sopra. Previously, he had already achieved third place in Maria Gugging's giant slalom and another five top 10 results, which brought him to sixth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 Junior World Championships in Horní Lhota, the Czech was among the top three in all competitions. He finished third in the giant slalom, second in the slalom and, like last year, won the Super-G and the Super Combined. With that he won his ninth world junior title. Gardavský achieved two sixth places in the Super-G and in the Super Combined at the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach. In slalom and giant slalom, he did not reach the goal.

In the 2010 season Gardavský remained unlike in previous years without wins or podiums. His best World Cup results were two fourth places in the slaloms of Čenkovice and Faistenau . With a total of five top 10 results, he finished seventh in the overall World Cup. He made it to the podium again in the 2011 season , in which he was among the top three in three World Cup races. In the overall World Cup he reached fifth place and thus his best overall result to date. At the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen , Gardavský won the silver medal in the Super-G behind Jan Němec and was fourth in the giant slalom. In the slalom and in the super combination he was eliminated.
