Riccardo Lorenzone (born November 5, 1976 in Domodossola ) is a former Italian grass skier . He was a member of the grass ski national team of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) until 2009 , was world champion in Super-G in 2009 , won another six medals at world championships as well as two world cup races and five Italian championship titles.

Career

Lorenzone celebrated his first international success with the bronze medal in slalom at the Junior World Championships 1995 in Arzberg . In the general class, he first came on the podium at the 2003 World Championships in Castione della Presolana . In the slalom he was seventh, in the giant slalom fifth and in the Super-G he won the bronze medal, which also brought him silver in the combination. In 2005 he won the silver medal in the Super-G in Dizin, Iran and finished fourth in the giant slalom. At the 2007 World Championships in Olešnice v Orlických horách he was third in the slalom and fourth in the Super-G at the same time as his compatriot Edoardo Frau . In the giant slalom, however, he only finished 19th. The Italian celebrated his greatest success at his last major event, the 2009 World Cup in Rettenbach, Austria . With almost three hundredths of a second ahead of the Czech Jan Němec , he became world champion in Super-G. In the super combined he won the silver medal and in the slalom the bronze medal, in the giant slalom he finished fourth.

In the World Cup , Lorenzone was able to place himself in the top 7 of the overall standings with two wins and numerous podium places from 2002 to 2008. The best results he achieved in the 2004 , 2006 , 2007 and 2008 seasons were fourth overall. At the Italian Championships Lorenzone won a total of five titles: in 2005 he won the slalom, the super-G and the combined, 2006 the super-G and 2007 the super-combined. After the 2009 World Cup, Lorenzone ended his career.
