Edoardo Frau (born June 24, 1980 in Asiago ) is an Italian grass skier . He became world champion in super-G in 2005 and world champion in giant slalom in 2011 , won nine other medals at world championships, was four times junior world champion and thirteen times Italian champion. In the 2008 and 2012 seasons he won the overall World Cup .

Career

Edoardo Frau is a member of the sports group of the Italian Army ( Corpo Sportivo dell'Esercito Italiano ) and has been a member of the national grass ski team of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) since 1995 . He achieved his first international successes at the Junior World Championships in 1997 in Müstair , where he won gold in the Super-G and bronze in the giant slalom and combined. In 1999 in Forni di Sopra he won three silver medals in slalom, giant slalom and combination as well as a bronze medal in Super-G. At the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Nakoyama , Tokushima Prefecture , he won three gold medals in slalom, giant slalom and combined, as well as a bronze medal in super-G.

In the general class, women won their first world championship medals and at the same time also their first world championship title at the 2005 World Cup in the Iranian ski resort of Dizin . First he won bronze in the slalom and giant slalom, before he secured the gold medal in the final Super-G ahead of his compatriot Riccardo Lorenzone and the Czech Jindřich Jež , with which he also won silver in the combination. At the next two World Championships, a total of five more bronze medals were added. In 2007 he was third in the giant slalom and in the super combined as well as fourth in the super G and fifth in the slalom in Olešnice v Orlických horách in the Czech Republic . In 2009 he won bronze three times in giant slalom, super-G and super combined in Rettenbach, Austria , and finished sixth in slalom. Woman won her second world title in the giant slalom of the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen . He also finished second in the super combined, sixth in the super G and eleventh in the slalom.

In the World Cup , women made it into the top 10 in the overall ranking for the first time in the 2001 (8th place) and 2002 (9th place) seasons. Since 2003 he has been among the absolute best in the world. By 2012 he was able to place in the top three in the overall World Cup ten times in a row. So far, Frau has won the overall World Cup twice: For the first time in the 2008 season , when he was overall World Cup winner with four wins and two more podium places in front of the Austrian Michael Stocker , and for the second time in the 2012 season , when he was with six wins and more four podiums again won the overall standings, this time ahead of the Czech Jan Němec .
