Paweł Sydor

Paweł Sydor (* 1970 in Białystok ) is a Polish composer .

Life

After taking music lessons in Poland, Paweł Sydor studied composition at Oberlin College with Edward J. Miller and Richard Hoffmann , and conducting with Robert Ponto and Robert Spano . He continued to study at the Juilliard School with John Corigliano . In 1994 he won the Juilliard School Composer's Competition with Virtuti Militari - Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra , which premiered at Lincoln Center with oboist Humbert Lucarelli and the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra . With Virtuti Militari , Sydor also won the American Academy of Arts and Letters' Charles Ives Scholarship in Composition in 1995.

Works

Sydor has written works from all compositional genres of classical music. His works have been performed in Europe and the United States, as well as in Brazil. He was also active as a composer of electronic music and film music. His currently best-known work is the Virtuti Militari oboe concerto .
