Pawel Popov (biologist)

Pawel Popow , actually Popow Pawel Mindorowski ( Bulgarian Павел Попов ; born August 16, 1902 in Kruschowene , † February 16, 1988 ) was a Bulgarian biologist .

Life

Popow studied in Belgium . In 1932 he joined the Bulgarian Communist Party . He was also a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences .

In his scientific work he dealt with the systematics, selection and hybridization of agricultural crops. He also worked on the specialization and concentration of the then socialist Bulgarian agriculture. He bred new varieties of peanut , poppy seeds, paprika, sesame and wheat.

Popov was named a Hero of Socialist Labor .
