Pavel Chilin
Pawel Tschilin (Russian Павел Чилин, English transliteration Pavel Chilin , born January 17, 1958 in Moscow ) is an organ builder , until 2016 the only one in Russia .
Life
Pawel Tschilin was already interested in instrument making as a child and made his first small instruments. While studying at the Aviation Production Institute (ЛИАП) in Leningrad, he built an electric violin , an electric guitar and two synthesizers for the rock band he played in. After completing his studies, he worked as an electrical mechanic in a marine production plant.
In 1988 Tschilin built his first small organ . As an autodidact, he acquired the knowledge of organ building from books. He has been a self-employed organ builder since 1991. In 1992 and 1994 Tschilin presented his own instruments at the Festival for Early Music in Berlin. In 1993 he also learned from Jürgen Ammer , who makes historical keyboard instruments.
Until 2016, Tschilin was the only organ builder in Russia. He created instruments for churches, music schools and other institutions. Its largest organ with 14 registers and two manuals is in the Catholic Church in Znamensk . Pawel Tschilin builds portative . His instruments can be found in Germany and Poland, among others. In 2002, the documentary The very best day by Pavel Medvedev was shot about him .
Tschilin lives in the village of Sablino near Saint Petersburg. He is married and has a son.
