Pawton Quoit

The Pawton Quoit is in a remote location about two miles southeast of Wadebridge and about four miles northwest of Padstow in a field near Haycrock Farm in Cornwall , England .

Quoits are portal graves from the Neolithic Age , in which (mostly three) vertical megaliths support the only cover plate. These dolmens were known as cromlechs in the 19th century . Systems of this type are found in Cornwall, Wales , Ireland and Northern Ireland . There they are also known as “ tripod dolmen ”.

The Pawton Quoit consists of a massive capstone that rests on three supporting stones. The chamber, which was once closed by three more side stones, measures around 2.3 × 1.1 meters and was previously covered by a burial mound.
