Paxtu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paxtu is the name of the former home of Robert Baden-Powell , the founder of the worldwide scouting movement , and his wife Olave in Nyeri in Kenya .

history

Both lived there from October 1939 until his death in January 1941. The house, now part of the Outspan Hotel, has been set up as a museum and can be visited on request. There is also a collection of scarves, badges, banners and pennants from scouts from around the world. The visit is free for scouts in scout clothing.

Surname

The name "Paxtu" was chosen because of the historic family site " Pax Hill " of the Baden-Powell family near London ( England ). However, the exact meaning is unclear.

“Pax” is the Latin word for peace and since it was the second home , the homograph syllables “tu” could have been appended based on the English word “two” .

Other sources interpret Paxtu both with Pax too (thus the successor to Pax Hill) and for Paxtu, a word in Swahili that means "complete".
