The Peña Santa de Castilla (2596 m), also known as Torre Santa , is the highest peak in the western part of the Picos de Europa . It towers over the neighboring peaks considerably. The shape of the mountain corresponds to a mighty, two kilometer long ridge, starting in the west at the Aguja del Corpus Cristi to the gap called Cerra del Frade in the east. A suitable starting point for tours is the Vega Huerta , a plain south of the summit at an altitude of about 2000 meters. The 600-meter-high south wall can also be clearly seen from there. The hut there has fallen into disrepair.

The easiest ascent is through the north face. The route is known as the Canal Estrecha . There are climbing difficulties up to III + to be mastered, the total difficulty is given as ZS-. This route was probably also chosen by the first climbers who reached the summit on August 3, 1892, that was V. Marocs, F. Sakkes and P. Labrouche.
