PeaceWomen Across the Globe - official German name: FriedensFrauen Worldwide - is a Swiss non-governmental organization based in Bern that wants to support women active in the peace movement and make them better known.

The organization is an association under Swiss law and emerged from the campaign in 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 , the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize nominee of 2005. The campaign and organization were initiated by the Swiss National Councilor Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold .

Concerns and goals

PeaceWomen Worldwide describes the further development of the network of women who work for peace and human rights as their concern . She states that, in addition to the 1000 women nominated for the Nobel Prize - the peace women - she wants to encourage and network a new generation of committed and competent women so that the experiences of one can support the peace work of others "(quote) . In doing so, she sees the vision of “creating a peaceful, safe and democratic world [...] in which all people and the environment are protected from avoidable damage, loss and violence . This is a world in which women, men and children live in dignity , in which human rights are respected and women and men actively participate in building societies and their future. ”(Quote) PeaceWomen worldwide has the following goals for their work :

  1. Strengthening the participation of women as equal decision-makers on all social and political levels, in particular participation in peace negotiations and activities to protect and restore peace and the rule of law .
  2. Stop violence against women
  3. Making women's peace work visible and strengthening it

organization structure

There is an international board of directors , regional coordinators (project coordinators), regional representatives and an international office. The international board consists of (as of 2018) 15 experts in peace and women promotion and / or gender equality. All continents are represented. As of 2018 there are four regional coordinators (outside Europe) and 19 regional representatives. The organization has numerous partner organizations such as B. the World Social Forum , the World Organization Against Torture , from Africa the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding , from America Women's Action for New Directions (WAND) and Federación Internacional para los Derechos Humanos (FIDH) and from Europe Swisspeace and the Institute for Peace Research in Oslo .

The office, based in Bern, is responsible for ensuring the functioning of the organization and for coordinating projects and activities. She works with the regional coordinators or partner organizations.
