The Pedernales river divides the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic in the south of the island of Hispaniola . From its source in the Chaîne de la Selle, it flows south into the Caribbean waters and forms the traditional border between the two states.
On one side is the city of the same name Pedernales in the province named after it and on the side of Haiti (west) the department Sud-Est with the Arrondissement de Belle-Anse .
