Pedro Joaquín Chamorro y Alfaro

Pedro Joaquín Chamorro y Alfaro (born June 21, 1818 in Granada , † June 7, 1890 ibid) was President of Nicaragua between 1875 and 1879.

Life

In 1854 he was mayor of Granada and took part in the defense of the city against William Walker .

In 1862 he was senator for the department of Granada and in 1869 he became a member of the government cabinet.

As president from 1875 to 1879, he defended conservative and traditionalist positions.

He played a central role in the Eisenstuck affair . At the second incident of the German-Nicaraguan affair on November 29, 1876 in Chinandega , he happened to be present in the city. A visit with the honorary consul family was "cold" and "quite unfriendly".
