José Vicente Cuadra

José Vicente Cuadra Lugo (born July 25, 1812 in Granada , Nicaragua , † December 10, 1894 in Granada , Nicaragua) was a Nicaraguan politician of the Partido Conservador de Nicaragua and president of the country from 1871 to 1875.

Life

His government took in the Jesuits expelled from other Central American countries and founded new schools in León and Granada . He also commissioned the geographer Pablo Levy to write his Notas Geográficas y Económicas de Nicaragua . In terms of foreign policy, he began negotiations with the aim of reintegrating the Mosquitia into the country.
