Pedro Zaragoza Orts (born May 15, 1922 - April 1, 2008 in Benidorm ) was a Spanish politician .

From 1950 to 1967 he was mayor of Benidorm , which was still a fishing village at the beginning of his tenure . From 1950 onwards, Zaragoza had streets paved, equipped the village with a water supply system and presented a development plan in 1956. Until 1967, high-rise buildings with hotels for mass tourism were built in Benidorm, which still characterize the city and made Benidorm a well-known holiday destination. Zaragoza achieved particular fame in the 1950s with its unauthorized lifting of the bikini ban on the beaches of Benidorm. In the scandal that followed, bikini-wearing tourists were led away from the beach by members of the Guardia Civil . Zaragoza was threatened with excommunication by the Catholic Archbishop and some members of the city council and even government ministers spoke out against the "moral decline". Zaragoza now made the decision to contact Franco personally . He was able to persuade him to lift the bikini ban on bathing beaches in Spain at the time.

After his mayoral career, Zaragoza worked as a businessman. From 1961 to 1977 he was a member of the Spanish Parliament. Zaragoza died of heart failure on April 1, 2008 in a hospital in Benidorm.
