Akrahreppur is an Icelandic municipality in the Norðurland vestra region in northern Iceland .

On January 1, 2019, the community had 202 inhabitants. The main line of business is agriculture. There are no towns in this parish.

geography

The municipality is located east of the Héraðsvötn river . The municipality extends in a north-south direction from the area east of Varmahlíð with the Blönduhlíðarfjöll to Hofsjökull , which is partly part of the municipality. In the northeast of the municipality is the Öxnadalsheiði .

history

The municipality used to be called Blönduhlíðarhreppur .

The Hringvegur crosses Akrahreppur for almost 40 km through the Norðurárdalur and over the Öxnadalsheiði .
