Peeter Sink

Peeter Sink (born March 30, 1902 in Pilistvere ; † May 31, 1957 ) was an Estonian Protestant pastor , poet, painter and photographer.

Live and act

Sink studied painting with Nikolai Triik and Ants Laikmaa at the Tallinn Art School . After voluntarily participating in the Estonian War of Independence , Sink experienced a religious revival in 1920 and became a pastor. In 1923 he joined the Christian youth movement Christian Endeavor , of which he was head for Estonia from 1926 to 1932. From 1938 he joined the European Christian Mission (ECM). In the last years of his life from 1955 he was a Lutheran pastor in Elva.

In addition, Sink always remained active as a painter and photographer and also emerged as a poet. In 1930 he married the composer Marie Gildemann , who set many of his poems to music. He stayed in constant contact with his fellow students Eduard Viiralt , Roman Nyman and Günther Reindorff and had several photo and painting exhibitions in the 1930s. His poems appeared in three volumes illustrated by himself. A comprehensive collection of his poems was published in 2002 under the title Taeva Vari (Shadows of Heaven).

Private life

Peeter and Marje Sink had two sons: the politician Tunne Kelam (* 1936) and the composer Kuldar Sink (1942–1995).
