The Peißnitzbrücke (also the Bridge of Friendship ) in Halle (Saale) spans the Saale and connects the Peißnitzinsel with the Ziegelwiese northwest of the city center.
history
The Peißnitz bridge was built from 1898 to 1899. The growing industrial city had acquired the river island Peißnitz shortly before. A local recreation area should be created there. For this purpose, the bridge was built as the first permanent connection instead of ferry connections between the city and the island. The bridge, including a bridge house built on the western abutment , was initially leased by the city to a private person who was given the right to collect bridge fees for use. The bridge fee was levied until 1921, after which the use of the bridge was free. At the end of the Second World War it was blown up in 1945 by the advancing American forces and rebuilt a short time later.
technical description
The bridge was built as a cantilever suspension bridge in steel framework construction. The framework is riveted. It has two pillars that stand directly on the banks of the Saale. The two sections between abutments and pillars are crossed by a footpath and cycle path on the eastern bank and by the Peißnitzexpress park railway on the eastern bank . Porphyry was used for facing the pillars and abutments . Likewise for the bridge house. The bridge has a total length of 103 meters. The distance between the two pillars is 70 meters and corresponds to the width of the hall at this point.
