Peko Petrow Takow ( Bulgarian Пеко Петров Таков ; born August 15, 1909 in Mesdra , † June 29, 2001 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician.

Life

Takow joined the Bulgarian Communist Youth Association in 1926 and was a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party from 1928 . He was imprisoned from 1934 to 1941 for his political activities. From June 1941 he worked politically illegally. In 1943 he became political commissar of the 11th Insurgent Operational Zone . In absentia, he was sentenced to death that year.

From 1949 to 1962 Takow was chairman of the Central Cooperative Association. From 1954 he was a member of the central committee of his party. He became a candidate in 1966 and then a member of the Politburo in 1979 . From 1962 to 1971 he was Bulgarian Minister for Internal Trade. From 1971 he was then deputy chairman of the State Council .

Takov was awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov as a Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , Hero of Socialist Labor .
