Pelagius II
Pelagius II. († February 7, 590 ) was Bishop of Rome from November 26, 579 to February 7, 590. Pelagius II. Was a Roman by birth, but his father was a Goth .
His pontificate fell at the time when Rome was threatened by the Lombards . When he did not see himself sufficiently supported by Byzantium , he became the first bishop of Rome to ask the Franks for help, but to no avail.
He died of an epidemic called "plague".
