Benedict I.
Benedict I († July 30, 579 ) was patriarch in Rome from June 2, 575 until his death and thus Pope .
His pontificate falls at the time of the Lombards' invasion , as a result of which disease and hunger shook the devastated countries.
Only a few of the writings of that time have survived, so that little is known about Benedict I. Before he took office, there was a ten-month vacancy .
